• What is New Life In Christ Worship Center?
• We are an evangelical, Bible-teaching church dedicated to meeting the needs of the second generation Hmong in the Twin Cities and beyond. We believe that God desires a relationship with His people and that Jesus speaks, forgives, and heals today just as He did 2,000 years ago.
• Why another church?
• This new generation of Hmong is different from their parents in their lifestyles and their values, as well as the way they think, relate and communicate. Because of this, they will need a new and different kind of church—one that will do worship, leadership, ministry and relationship in a way that is relevant to them.
• Does that mean Hmong culture isn't important anymore?
• Absolutely not! The Hmong culture is very important and we are not against it at all. However, God and His message of hope to humanity transcends our culture. Because this new Hmong generation is different from their parents, I want to communicate the Word of God and do church in a way that is relevant to them. We do this not to dishonor our parents or our culture, but to honor God and his message.
• Where does New Life stand with the issue of women in leadership?
• Our Leadership Team welcomes anyone—man or woman—who loves God and wants to serve Him. We will train them in Biblical principles of leadership and teamwork and place them into the role that suits their God-given gifts, passions and talents. Currently, many women play key roles at New Life, including the Governing Board, the Ministry Team, outreach programs, and event planning. We have even had women teaching during our Sunday service.
• If I visit New Life, do you guys expect me to dress formally?
• New Life is a very casual church. Jeans and t-shirts are almost the norm around here. At our services, your "Sunday best" refers to the heart you bring to God, not what you wear. But don't worry, if you're more comfortable being formal, that's okay with us too. The only thing is that I won't be wearing a tie—well, maybe once in a while on special occasions.
• How do you guys do worship?
• New Life understands that we are a generation that loves to express our emotions through music. Believe it or not, the Bible also teaches that we should play music and express our emotions to God when we worship. Every week, a live band (our worship team) plays contemporary praise and worship music during Sunday Service and encourages everybody to express their hearts to God. During this time, it's quite normal to see people clapping, lifting up their hands, and kneeling down. God moves in different ways for different people and we are comfortable with all of them.
